The Rise and Fall of Anime Antiheroes: A Closer Look at 'Death Note'

Just finished watching Death Note again and got me thinking about how anime antiheroes like Light Yagami really changed the game. Back in the day, it wasn't common to root for the bad guy, but Death Note flipped the script. Light, with all his flaws and genius, made us question what's right and wrong. But it feels like after Death Note, the whole antihero vibe kinda lost its edge. Most series now either go too hard trying to replicate that complexity and end up feeling forced, or they just scratch the surface. What made Death Note stand out was its deep dive into morality, justice, and power, making us empathize with Light even when we disagreed with him. Haven't seen many shows lately that hit that mark. Anyone else feel like the era of truly impactful anime antiheroes peaked with Death Note?
