Best Underrated Anime Recommendations for 2024?

Just finished "Day and Night: The Awakening" (amazing, truly!) and realized there's so much gold out there folks are sleeping on. Need some under-the-radar anime recs for my binge list. Please refrain from mainstream (think "Attack on Titans", "My Hero Academia"). Would appreciate something with strong character development and mind-bending plot. Thanks, guys!

If you're into psychological thriller with a twist of supernatural, "Psycho-Pass" and "Serial Experiments Lain" are definitely worth a shot. They're not mainstream but provides a deep plot and diverse characterization. I felt "Paranoia Agent" has got an intriguing storyline too, quite underrated in my view. Hope you end up liking them!

I'd suggest giving "Dennou Coil" a shot. Seriously underrated but a masterpiece in terms of character development and takes you on a journey through a virtual world like no other. Plus, anything that explores themes of identity and existentialism is an immediate winner in my book. Another obscure one is "Ergo Proxy", it's dark and complicated, just how I like'em. Might be a bit slow on the uptake, but once it sinks in... absolute gold.

Jumping in with another recommendation - "Monster". It's a psychological thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat and offers one of the most complex character developments in anime. The plot is so intricate, it's next level! Not to forget "Mushishi", for anyone who loves a good mystery, its episodic nature makes each story like a small gift to be unwrapped. Really highlighted how underrated can sometimes mean unseen gems. Enjoy!

"Texhnolyze" is a well-kept secret in the anime world. It's very psychological and rather dark, but the writing is exceptional. Character development is done meticulously, the themes revolve around existentialism, and the plot is bound to send you through an emotional rollercoaster. And if you're in the mood for a philosophical yet action-packed anime, "Kino's Journey" is a gem. It has a unique episodic format that explores different societies and cultures. Both are not your run-of-the-mill animes and I've found them to be deeply satisfying.
