Will Kaiju No 8 Inspire a New Wave of Monster Protagonists in Shonen Anime

Never thought I’d see the day when turning into a kaiju would be the coolest career move in shonen. Kafka’s transformation totally flips the usual monster vs human setup, and it feels as big as when titans first showed up in AoT. The way he tries to balance his human life with being a literal kaiju is wild, especially when you get moments like Kikoru roasting him for his weird kaiju habits right after a serious battle. If this catches on, we might see more shonen leads who are monsters themselves, not just fighting them. Maybe this is setting up a new era where the “enemy” side gets the spotlight. Anyone else think this could be the start of a monster protagonist trend? I’m hyped to see where this goes—like waiting for the next big kaiju stomp. What do you all think?

Kafka’s whole vibe reminds me of when Tokyo Ghoul first flipped the script, but this time it’s way more shonen and less edge. If Kaiju No 8 kicks off a monster protagonist trend, I’m all for it. Seeing the “enemy” side’s struggles could make for some seriously fresh stories and character arcs.

Kafka being both the hero and the kaiju is such a cool twist. Usually, shonen keeps the monster side as the enemy or a power up, but here it’s his whole identity. If more series go this route, we might get some really unique stories where the “monster” isn’t just a villain or tool.

Kafka being a kaiju but still trying to live a normal life is such a twist on the usual shonen formula. If more shows go this route, we might get some really creative takes on what it means to be a “monster.” Honestly, I’m ready for the next wave of weird, relatable non human leads.
